It's been 2 months since I started my exchange program at University of Wollongong in Australia! No words can describe how proud I am to be a NL student who grabbed the chance to expand my knowledge across the continent.

Before becoming a third-year communication student, I had studied communication and marketing - related subjects such as Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communications and so forth in my first year as well as projects with real clients who had the case study to challenge us in terms of Customer Journey, Organisational Change, etc in my second year at HAN (ISB) in the Netherlands. Moving to UOW for one semester, I challenged myself with the Marketing field and hope to see if I can apply any knowledge I have gained so far. As such, I chose 4 Marketing subjects, of which, my favourite one is Public Relations Concept.

Having known about Public Relations since I was at my high school where I was the Head of Public Relations of the English Club. During 1 year, I simply managed the relationship of my club and the audiences - students at my high school via social media posts and event organisation. It was inspiring to see how communication could be crafted to build bridges, shape perceptions, and spark positive change. Not only my club but also others had the Public Relations activities to remain our reputation.

When I was in my first year at HAN, I took a course named Public Relations. At first, I felt a bit confused because it was strange and different from what I had done before. It is obvious that PR is wider than just controlling a fan page and its reputation, which is only the first step of knowing the basics of what PR is. To be honest, after this module, I really figured out too much. Let me give an example. I remembered that one day in the past when I decided to study Communication at HAN, my uncle said that I could become a professional in solving the communication crisis of some companies as an example of what I would do after I graduate. At that time, I could not understand what the crisis really meant and why I needed to solve it. I got it thanks to every lecture and workshop. I found it to be such an interesting experience that I could learn not only the theory but also put it into practice by working on a case for a medicine company. I love it most because I think that I had a feeling of conquering what I have been wondering about for a long time.

Again, the destiny took me to Public Relations Concept subject at UOW. It is my third time being exposed to PR but I have been surprised at how detailed the lectures and how inspiring the tutorials are - they are all in-depth, giving me a much clearer understanding of the different aspects of PR. Every topic is divided clearly with consistent content and examples that I feel like there is no other way that PR can be delivered better to students. After 7 weeks, I find myself immersed in a profound appreciation for the multifaceted nature of public relations. Concepts that once seemed abstract now resonate with clarity as I grasp their significance in shaping public perception and organisational success.

Moreover, the tutorials have been invaluable in reinforcing my understanding through engaging discussions and practical exercises. Collaborating with classmates to do some activities that the tutor well prepared for us has provided me with invaluable insights into real-world scenarios. These interactive sessions have not only honed my analytical skills but have also instilled in me a sense of confidence in navigating the complexities of the PR landscape. The most significant experience is my report which includes a PR concept/ topic and a real-life example, together with a presentation to the class. Despite my deep understanding about the concept, I struggled to apply it into the real campaign. Also, I was not confident with my presentation skill even though I had presented several times.

I couldn't do it without the support of my lecturer, who is also my tutor! I feel so lucky to be one of her students at UOW. To Mary, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation for crafting lectures that are not only informative but also engaging. Your ability to elucidate complex concepts with clarity has been instrumental in deepening my understanding of PR principles. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to excellence and for instilling in me a passion for the field of public relations. Moreover, your guidance during tutorials has provided me with invaluable insights and perspectives. Your willingness to go above and beyond to assist students in grasping challenging concepts has not gone unnoticed, and I am truly thankful for your mentorship. I will never forget your email showing me your academic advice and mental support that makes my stress fade away when I am confused about how to approach the report. It is such a big encouragement that makes me gain my confidence and perform well since I know that I am on the right track. I always believe that having a good mentor can help me go really far...

I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to learn from such dedicated professionals, and I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills gained under your tutelage to make meaningful contributions in the field of PR. Thank you for your support and for inspiring me to strive for excellence!

Half way passed, my journey through the Public Relations Concept subject at UOW has been nothing short of transformative. From a novice with a rudimentary understanding of PR, I now emerge with a profound appreciation for its strategic importance and a newfound passion for its practice. As I continue to absorb the wealth of knowledge imparted in this course for the next 6 weeks, I am eager to apply these insights to contribute meaningfully to the world of public relations.
